Centre for Rural Development is a Non Profit Organisation, carrying out development activities since last 17 years in Assam. Since its inception, the emphasis was given on the holistic development of the community people. Therefore, no area of development was untouched in the process of community development. This is the strong belief of the foundation that all section of the society be covered to experience a visible change. Centre for Rural Development (CRD) came into existence as an initiative of Dr. Pradip Kumar Sarmah, a Ashoka-Lemenson Fellow, and a man of innovation and social inclines since his childhood. After graduating from the College of Veterinary Science, Guwahati in 1989, he began his career as a Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS) with the Deptt of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Govt. of Assam. Not contended, he resigned in September 1991 and joined a nongovernmental organization Rashtryia Gramin Vikas Nidhi (RGVN). Passionate to do something new and time worthy, he started meeting like-minded people, and sharing his vision and plan with them. His idea was well-supported and finally a consensus plan emerged. Thus Centre for Rural Development (CRD) was formed in the year 1994 with its head office at Guwahati, Assam. CRD is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 with its major thrust areas inAnimal Husbandry, Agriculture, Fishery and other income generation activities based on localized planning through livelihood promotion & enhancement activities utilising local skill and resources. The organization has also got registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act of 1976. Since then it has been supported by various donor and funding agencies had come forward in making CRD’s mission a reality.
